Cannabinoids and the endocannabinoid system

Cannabinoids are a complex group of molecules that are found in the hemp plant, cocoa plant, black pepper, and black truffle. Today, we know about 120 different cannabinoids. Cannabidiol (CBD) and Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) are the two most recognized and studied cannabinoids. Cannabinoids are neurotransmitters like hormones. The endocannabinoid system (ECS) was first discovered in 1992 by Dr. Rafael Mechoulam from the Hebrew University in Israel. The ECS system is a network of cells that have receptors only for cannabinoids, there are actually more receptors for cannabinoids in the body than any other type of receptor. So the endocannabinoid system is clearly the largest network of its kind throughout our body. What many people do not know is that the body also produces its own similar cannabinoids called endocannabinoids

Cannabinoids are divided into two groups: endocannabinoids and phytocannabinoids. Endocannabinoids occur naturally in our bodies and are part of the ECS. Phytocannabinoids are called the cannabinoids that occur in the hemp plant and can be used to affect ECS. Unlike THC, the CBD is not psychoactive and therefore does not produce any intoxicating effects, but it has been shown to have a number of medical properties.

Lack of Cannabinoids

Almost all people, especially us in the western world, are constantly affected by inflammation due to factors such as environmental toxins, heavy metals, pesticides, which often leads to chronic biological infections, bacteria, viruses, inflamed joints (rheumatism) and fungi. If your immune system has been inflamed, there is a risk that you will suffer from autoimmune diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, psoriasis, eczema, chronic infection and so on. There may also be inflammation in the central nervous system, which often results in mental disorders such as ADHD, migraine, anxiety, PTSD, insomnia, and more. In fact, many of these diseases did not exist (at least they were extremely rare) 100-150 years ago. The diseases have occurred mainly during the modern time and often depend on our harmful surroundings and the environment and toxins that we absorb daily in our system. So, if you suffer from any of these diseases, the CBD can go in and repair and restore your physiological balance through the endocannabinoid system that maintains homeostasis.

Cannabinoids in industrial hemp

Our full spectrum products contain all of the hemp’s cannabinoids, thereof the name referring to the “full spectrum” of cannabinoids. You get all the effects from the following cannabinoids when you ingest CBD products. Researchers have yet to analyze certain cannabinoids; the ones we review below are the most well-known cannabinoids. Out of all the 100+ different cannabinoids, the CBD (also called cannabidiol) is the cannabinoid that is in the highest concentration in industrial hemp. Products with flowers or extracts from the hemp therefore generally contain more CBD than other cannabinoids. CBD, unlike the THC, is not intoxicating and cannot make you “high”, rather the opposite since CBD has been shown to reduce psychoses.

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is perhaps best known for being responsible for the hemp plant’s intoxicating effect and is generally classified as a narcotic. Industrial hemp contains no more than 0.2% THC, and due to the low percentage, it is not classified as narcotics. Thanks to the low content of THC, products with cannabinoids from industrial hemp give no intoxicating effect.

Other cannabinoids that occur in industrial hemp include:

  • CBDa – Cannabidiolic acid. CBDa is among else, is anti-inflammatory and is believed to relieve nausea and vomiting.
  • CBDv – cannabidivarin, has anticonvulsant effects and can offer an alternative in the treatment of epilepsy.
  • CBG – cannabigerol, is another cannabinoid with potential health benefits. CBG is known for having antiseptic properties and research suggests that it can be effective against bacterial infections such as MRSA.
  • THCa – tetrahydrocannabinol acid, has anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective properties. THCa is not to be confused with Tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV) which is, among other things, appetite suppressant and can help in the treatment of metabolic diseases such as diabetes.
  • The CBC – Cannabichromene, is one of the cannabinoids we know least about, but it is believed to have tremendous potential. Studies conducted suggest that CBC may have anti-inflammatory, antiviral and anti-fungal or “antifungal” properties.
  • THCv – tetrahydrocannabivarin, a non-narcotic cannabinoid, which, like CBDv, has a shorter “tail” of carbon compounds than its counterpart THC.

Hemp’s phytocannabinoids are primarily known for interacting with the body’s endocannabinoid system. They also affect many more receptors than those found in the ECS and thus have many ways that they can contribute to the body’s natural function.

Our Products

Our products are made from the plant Cannabis Sativa. In industrial contexts, it is usually referred to as industrial hemp. The Swedish Board of Agriculture has produced a list of approved hemp varieties with low THC values that we must stay within. CBD Products is a dietary supplement that contains extracts from the hemp plant. The extract is highly concentrated and contains, in addition to cannabinoids, also beneficial fatty acids, minerals, and vitamins. To obtain the desired concentration, the extract is dissolved in a carrier, usually an oil or e-juice liquid.

All extracts come from EU-approved industrial hemp grown in Slovenia. What distinguishes industrial hemp from cannabis is that the industrial hemp contains a quantity of THC of at most 0.2%. According to the EU, this is a non-narcotic, legal product that doesn’t give any intoxicating effects. Our products are made using “CO2 extraction” which is the best-in-class method since it maintains all the plant’s substances.

Effects of CBD oil
According to a study published in Medscape, CBD contains a plethora of positive effects on humans (see below). Under the tab “Research” you will find more articles on the subject. CBD has been found to be:

  • Antiemetic – can reduce vomiting and nausea
  • Antiepileptic – can suppress epileptic seizures
  • Antipsychotic – can counter psychotic diseases such as schizophrenia
  • Anti-inflammatory – can counteract inflammatory diseases
  • Antioxidant – can counteract neurodegenerative diseases
  • Anticancer / tumors – can fight tumors and cancer cells
  • Anxiolytic / antidepressant – can counteract anxiety and depression disorders
  • Antistress – can relieve stress
